Commerce isn't standing still, and neither is how we think about rewarding the humans who make it happen. Our Compensation team is the engine behind Shopify's approach to total rewards—and we need someone who gets excited about turning messy data into crystal-clear insights.

This isn't your typical "run reports and call it done" analyst role. You'll be the analytical backbone supporting compensation decisions that ripple across the entire company. Think executive hiring decisions, program launches, and the kind of number-crunching that directly impacts thousands of Shopifolk. No pressure, right? (We're kidding—you'll love it.)

Who you are

  • Analytically obsessed: Excel, Google Sheets, SQL—these aren't just tools to you, they're your creative outlets. You see a spreadsheet and think "what story is this data trying to tell me?"

  • Comfortable with chaos: You thrive when priorities shift mid-week, when you get 20% of the context but need to figure out the other 80%, and when "urgent" actually means urgent.

  • Detail-oriented without being paralyzed: You catch the small stuff that matters but don't get stuck in perfectionism when speed matters more. When mistakes happen, you own them and know when to ask for help.

  • Naturally curious: You ask the right follow-up questions. When someone gives you a task, you want to understand not just the what, but the why behind it.

  • Execution-focused: You're not here to reinvent compensation theory—you want to get stuff done, done well, and done efficiently.

  • Flexible and responsive: Sometimes the work happens after 5 PM. Sometimes priorities flip overnight. You roll with it and communicate clearly about what you can deliver when.

What you'll actually do

  • Data detective work: Pull apart compensation data, spot the patterns, and package findings into "here are your options" analyses that help leaders make smart decisions.

  • Rapid-fire problem solving: One minute you're analyzing market data , the next you're troubleshooting a pay equity question. Variety is the name of the game.

  • Process improvement with a human touch: Figure out how to make our workflows more scalable while keeping the nuanced, thoughtful approach that sensitive comp work demands.

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work alongside folks in Finance, Data and Talent to deliver programs that actually work in the real world.

  • Learn our unique approach: Get deep into Shopify's compensation philosophy—spoiler alert, we don't do things the way everyone else does.

What you'll get out of this

  • Rapid skill development: Learn compensation from the ground up in an environment that values unique approaches over "that's how it's always been done."

  • High-impact exposure: Your analysis directly informs decisions about, program launches, and company-wide initiatives.

  • Growth trajectory: This role is designed for someone ready to level up quickly—we're looking for your next 2-3 career moves, not just this one.

  • Mentorship and context: Work directly with senior compensation leaders who are invested in your growth and understanding of the bigger picture.

Qualifications

  • 0-5 years in finance, business analysis, operations, consulting, or similar analytical roles

  • Solid foundation in data manipulation and analysis

  • Experience working in fast-paced environments where priorities shift

  • Background that shows you can handle ambiguous requests and figure things out

  • No compensation experience required—we'll teach you our way anyway

  • You act with integrity. You handle confidential information with care. You bring professionalism to every interaction.

Bonus points for

  • Previous experience at Shopify (we know how the sausage gets made)

  • Background in revenue operations, workforce planning, or business intelligence

  • Consulting or client services experience (you're used to juggling multiple stakeholders)

  • Experience with Workday and Shareworks is a plus.
