Overview

As the Principal Compensation Consultant, you will lead the charge in designing and optimizing Paychex's sales compensation strategy to attract, motivate, and retain top talent. You will be a trusted partner, advising leaders on all sales compensation related activities, providing clear advice and recommendations, and aligning with HR business partners to identify areas of opportunity to innovate and improve current practices for your client group(s). You'll own the end-to-end process—from deep-dive analysis and competitive benchmarking to compliance oversight and seamless program administration. Your expertise will drive innovative compensation solutions that are not only market-leading but also scalable and sustainable for our growing workforce. By partnering across the business, you'll shape compensation programs that empower our associates and fuel Paychex's success in a dynamic talent landscape.


Responsibilities

  • Partner with HR business advisors to advise leadership on all sales compensation related activities. Propose new ideas and act as a change agent to innovate and simplify current practices. Influence towards best practices. Resolve complex, escalated issues related to compensation programs with expert judgment and a solutions-oriented approach.
  • Develop a comprehensive understand of your client group(s) and business objectives/strategies to optimize sales compensation plans. Pro-actively evaluate current performance of sales compensation plans an identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
  • Partner with colleagues across Compensation on program components (Base Salary, Incentives, Equity), analytics/reporting/modeling, and governance related to your client group(s). Utilize analytics to produce compelling data insights for leaders to enable data-based compensation decision making, and evaluate program effectiveness, participation rates, and employee experience, translating complex data into clear, actionable plans and programs.
  • Drive continuous improvement by evaluating administrative workflows across compensation programs, recommending and implementing process enhancements that boost efficiency and user experience.
  • Support delivery of compelling communications that simplify key compensation processes —empowering employees with clear, engaging information.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by monitoring and interpreting federal, state, and local regulations impacting compensation and benefits; proactively recommend and implement plan adjustments to ensure full compliance and mitigate risk.
  • Spearhead participation in key benchmark surveys to analyze market trends, leveraging insights to craft and champion best-in-class compensation strategies that keep Paychex competitive and agile.
  • Partner closely with the Finance and Technology teams ensuring fiscal responsibility, data integrity and operational excellence.
  • Drive high-impact ad hoc projects and strategic initiatives, including due diligence and integration efforts for new business acquisitions, contributing to Paychex’s growth and transformation.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business or related discipline - Required
  • Master's Degree - Preferred
  • + years exempt level experience in Human Resources with an emphasis on sales compensation plan design, implementation, and administration. Administration includes managing vendor relations, compliance requirements and employee and leader communications.
  • CCP, PHR a plus

Compensation

In the spirit of pay transparency, we are excited to share that the starting base pay range for this position is $108,500 to $170,500 annually. Please keep in mind that this range is the base pay only and does not consider other components that make up the total rewards package for the Talent Acquisition & Onboarding position. If you are hired at Paychex, your overall compensation will be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience which may result in total compensation outside of this range.
