Job Description
Gilead Sciences Protein Therapeutics Department has an exciting opportunity for highly motivated Research Scientist to join the Protein Science group. In this position, the candidate will support diverse research project teams in generation and analytical characterization of biologics molecules. He/she should have hands-on experience and in-depth knowledge of protein purification and qualification. This person will work in collaboration with research project teams to generate potential therapeutic proteins and surrogate tool molecules, aiding in the selection of lead candidates including bispecific antibodies, immunocytokines, and many other novel and complex biologics.
Responsibilities:
- Execute protein purification and qualification protocols, and perform troubleshooting when needed
- Continuously adopt state of the art technologies to improve efficiency and/or expand capability for protein purification and qualification
- Collaborate with therapeutic area biologists to generate proteins and advance project goals in support of large molecule therapeutic programs
- Serve as a technical expert in research project teams, and may serve as a core team member representing Protein Therapeutics
- Mentor and may manage junior staff
Required skills:
- Detailed scientific knowledge of protein science
- Skilled in programing and use of AKTA Avant/Pure or BioRad NGC for protein purification
- Extensive experience in purification of biologics molecules using techniques including affinity (Protein A/G/L, Capture Select affinity resins, Ni-NTA, etc), ion exchange, size exclusion, hydrophobic interaction chromatography, mixed-mode chromatography
- Experienced in various protein analytical techniques such as HPLC or UHPLC, SDS-PAGE or CE-SDS, Endosafe, SEC-MALS
- Working knowledge in construct design for therapeutics proteins and surrogate tool molecules
- Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills
Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Bioengineering or related discipline, with demonstrated technical depth and breadth in protein purification and qualification; and/or M.S. with a minimum of 6+ years of direct experience with listed characteristics and techniques for the position; and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Nice to have skills
- Experience in automated liquid handling systems for protein purification (e.g., Tecan) is a strong plus
- Experience in LC-MS analysis of biologics sample is highly desired
