Job Description

The Vice President of Alliance and Integration Management is a key strategic member of the executive team, responsible for the worldwide oversight of Gilead’s partnership portfolio and ensuring Gilead is a partner of choice for future business development opportunities. Additionally, this role will lead the Integration Management Office (IMO), ensuring the seamless integration of acquisitions including assets, technologies, talent, and platforms into Gilead. Gilead’s partnerships and acquisitions are fundamental to its strategy, this role is critical in ensuring that Gilead creates value out of these strategic transactions.

Key Responsibilities

Alliances and Partnerships:

  • Oversee and manage 100+ strategic partnerships across Research, Development, and Commercial organizations.

  • Lead a team that works directly with Gilead’s strategic partners to set the direction and scope for implementation of partnership agreement: key activities, timing and responsibilities on either side.

  • Actively work with corporate development team on ensuring that new alliances are fit for purpose and structured in a way to achieve our objectives

  • Frequently direct contract negotiations and re-negotiations, evolving partnerships to meet future business needs.

  • Crisis management - address business critical issues that require immediate attention while working to minimize crisis management situations

  • Liaise with various functional area stakeholders across the company, including R&D, commercial, regulatory, finance, legal, manufacturing, and distribution.

  • Directly manage 1-2 high priority alliances (e.g., player and coach)

Integration Management:

  • Lead the Integration Management Office (IMO) and develop tools and playbooks for consistent and repeatable integrations.

  • Provide leadership and oversight to ongoing and future integrations.

  • Facilitate continuous improvement of integration processes through best practices and post-mortem feedback loops.

  • Create and manage integration plans, including timelines, budgets, operational and financial metrics, and headcount requirements.

  • Prepare budgetary estimates for each integration based on due diligence and integration requirements and risks.

  • Participate in the due diligence phase of transactions to understand deal risks and develop mitigation strategies.

  • Collaborate with SMEs and key stakeholders to ensure clarity of integration requirements and timelines.

  • Assemble and manage cross-functional teams for post-merger integration projects.

  • Track and report progress to the C-Suite (GLT) against objectives and success measures during integration execution.

  • Drive day-to-day execution of the integration process, coaching cross-functional teams, leading integration meetings, and resolving issues proactively.

Organizational Leadership:

  • Exemplify Gilead’s core values of inclusion, accountability, teamwork, excellence, and integrity.

  • Accountable for succession planning and talent needs across the Alliance and Integration Management organization.

  • Set strategy for ongoing capacity planning with a 1-3 year projection.

  • Manage budget and oversee group spend for all direct and indirect reports.

  • Foster a transparent, motivating, and innovative culture through inclusion and leadership excellence.

  • Create and oversee ongoing training and encourage industry conference participation and involvement within the group.

  • Serve as a thought leader in the Alliance and Integration Management industry, staying at the forefront of trends and transitions.

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Expectations:

  • B.A. required (M.B.A., or J.D. preferred).

  • 15+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry, including expertise in direct-line executive management in alliance management, corporate or business development, drug development, compliance or regulatory, commercial policies and practices, new product planning, portfolio management, and lifecycle management.

  • Significant experience in contract negotiation and managing external stakeholders

  • Demonstrated excellence in executive leadership, project management, and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities.

  • Proven ability to lead within a complex matrix organization and influence leaders across different functions.
