Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting - Compensation
Canva
Company Description
Job Description
Canva is a high-growth SaaS company valued at $32B, and in an exciting phase of growth: we've surpassed 220 million monthly active users globally and are continuing to grow rapidly across Enterprise, and international markets.
Where and how you can work
Our flagship office is in Sydney, Australia, but we've made our way from down under, to a hub San Francisco, which is now home to our US operations, although this role is fully remote from Washington.
About the team
At Canva, our Corporate Accounting team is building the financial foundation for one of the world’s fastest-growing SaaS companies. As we continue to scale globally, this team plays a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and reliable financials to support decision-making and ensure operational excellence.
We’re not just closing the books — we’re transforming the way accounting works at Canva. We leverage automation, technology, and AI to simplify processes, drive efficiency, and create scalable systems that support long-term growth. As Canva continues to expand in scale and complexity, our team is at the center of that journey.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Manager, Corporate Accounting – Compensation to lead and elevate our compensation accounting team of two through this next phase of growth. In this role, you’ll oversee accounting for payroll, equity, and employee benefits, and play a key role in the reimplementation of our HRM, the rollout of our new global payroll provider, and the implementation of a new equity compensation tool — ensuring accounting requirements are captured and integrated across each initiative. As Canva continues expanding into new markets, you’ll also support the setup of payroll accounting in new geographies, helping to build globally scalable, audit-ready processes.
This is an ideal opportunity for a strategic, hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced, high-growth environments and is excited by the opportunity to build from the ground up. You’ll manage a high-performing team, partner cross-functionally across Finance, People, and Systems teams, and shape the future of compensation accounting through process transformation, automation, and AI.
What you’ll do
Lead and develop a high-performing Compensation Accounting team, fostering a growth mindset, ownership, and a culture of continuous improvement.
Oversee the monthly close for payroll, equity, and employee benefits — including journal entries, reconciliations, flux analysis, and related financial reporting deliverables.
Set the strategy for automation and process improvements, streamlining compensation accounting operations, reducing close timelines, and leveraging scalable, tech-enabled solutions — including AI.
Strengthen internal controls and support SOX compliance, audit readiness, and documentation across payroll, equity, and benefits accounting processes.
Act as a strategic thought partner across the business, collaborating with FP&A, Tax, Payroll, Total Rewards, and Finance Systems to simplify and scale compensation-related processes.
What we're looking for
Experience leading accounting teams, including Manager level, in both high-growth and public company environments; CPA (or equivalent) required.
Deep expertise in GAAP, SOX compliance, and internal controls related to payroll, equity, and employee benefits.
A track record of driving accounting transformation, with interest or experience in AI-enabled automation.
Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills, with the ability to influence and drive alignment across teams.
Proven ability to lead teams in dynamic, high-growth environments with focus and clarity.
A roll-up-your-sleeves mindset — energized by both strategic planning and hands-on execution.
